DIY Ribbon-wrapped Flower Crowns

If you want to make your own flower crown but only have boring brown or black headbands to choose from and want to make it look a bit cleaner and nicer--this is the tutorial for you! I've been really wanting to make some flower crowns lately, and the best headband I had lying around the house was a braided black leather one, and that didn't quite go with my flowers, so I thought, why not cover it up with some cute ribbon?

Here are the materials you will need:
  • a not-so-cute headband
  • some craft glue (I used E-6000 for extra hold)
  • (not pictured) a hot glue gun
  • a roll of ribbon in any colour and width of your choice
  • fake flowers
  • scissors
  • (optional) embellishments and garnishes of your choice

Now, let's get started!

  1. Starting at the bottom of one side of the headband, apply a generous amount of glue to attach the ribbon firmly--if it isn't properly stuck, all the ribbon will begin to come undone and ruin the whole process!
  2. Begin wrapping the ribbon around the headband, not leaving any blank spaces. It is good to go back over parts that may have some exposed glue and continue from there. Continue to add more glue down on the headband as you go. I like to apply work with cut pieces of ribbon until it runs out and then continue to add more because wrapping with the whole roll of ribbon can get frustrating.
  3. Finish it off the same way that you started and tada! You have your ribbon crown! For extra security, I applied some hot glue at the end of the ribbon to make sure it didn't wiggle away.
  4. Now time to get out your trusty hot glue gun and glue on those fake flowers from the "stem".
  5. Now you are done! You have a beautiful flower crown that looks very well put together and much less like a DIY.
  6. (optional) Add any little details you like to dress your crown up!

And now you're finished! Your friends will surely be asking if you purchased that flower crown at Claire's and you can proudly say that you made it yourself by dressing up the headband just a bit! I had a lot of fun making this, and I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! If you tried it out and want to show it off or have any feedback, leave a comment below!
